Sprains: Causes, Symptoms and Treatments

A Sprain is a result of stretching or tearing of a ligament. Symptoms include swelling, bruising, pain and tenderness.

Treatment for Sprains

Anti-inflammatory medications, compression and strapping are commonly administered treatments for Sprains. Futhermore, rehabilitation may be required to restore flexibility after healing.

Fractures: Causes, Symptoms and Treatments

Fractures occur when your bone breaks or cracks. Your risk factor for fractures are higher if you’re suffering from Osteoporosis, brittle bone disease, bone tumours or cancer.

Treatment for Fractures

A Fracture is generally treated with a Cast or a splint. A Cast or a Split is used to secure and immobilise the bone, so they can align and heal properly without being moved around. In rare cases such as hip fractures where it is not practically possible to immobilise the bone, surgery may be required.
If you’ve had a fracture or a sprain, please follow your doctor’s instructions carefully to speed up recovery and restore full mobility. This is very important as failure to do so can lead to misalignment of the bones or restraining the ligament, further damaging it.
